Distinctive Competences – What is it?
A distinctive competency is a strength possessed by only a small number of competing firms. Distinctive competencies are rare among a set of competitors.Organizations that exploit their distinctive competencies often obtain competitive advantage and attain above-normal economic performance.
Distinctive competencies are competencies that could be found in the functional areas in the organization. For example in finance, personnel, research and development; marketing and information management organization weakness can be evaluated in forms of skills and capabilities that do not enable an organization to choose and implement strategies that support its mission.Organisations have essentially two ways of addressing weakness. First, it may need to make investments to obtain the strength required to implement strategies that support its mission, secondly, it may need to modify its mission so that it can be accomplished with the skills and capabilities that the organization already possesses.
