The number of participants in a Group Discussion will usually be 8 to 10; but this is not a thumb-rule. Sometimes, if the number of candidates to be screened is very huge, then the HR person of the company might have groups of more than 10 also, even 15 to 20, at times.

The concept of Group Discussion has not been a part of the regular academic curriculum in Colleges and Universities. So, students usually face a lot of problem in this area of the Selection Process. Let us first understand why Group Discussion is conducted.
The reason why a GD is held is to identify various traits that the company is looking for in order to recruit the candidate. Some of such traits which the evaluators look out for in a candidate are –
